Searching

We started training (rescue) searching when Uno was about 6 months old in Kaakon Käyttökoirat ry. At first everything was so easy for us and Uno seemed to develop very fast. Uno is very social boy and likes people a lot so it was easy to get him to like the "guys". Only problem back then was that he didn`t bark (expressed the guy). We really did every tricks we knew to get him to say a word. Uno was about 12 months old when he finally got the idea on expression: when I bark - i´ll get lot of treats.

When Uno was about 11 months old the problems started... He didn`t interested about the "guys" at all. He refused to take the treats or play with the "guys". Nothing but nice smells and running in the woods interested him. When training he usually searched the guy as soon as possible and then just disappeared to the woods to do his own researching work. Or then he didn`t searched the guy at all and only ran to the woods. This period took about 1,5 years to pass.

Novadays Uno enjoys searching a lot and uses his nose very well. He is precise and persistence worker - if there is a smell and a guy in the woods Uno will definitely found it.

Unos strenghts as a search dog are that he is physically suited, fast, nimble (despite of his size), he has a good, loud expression (bark) and after all he likes people and loves to use his nose. Unos weakest side is that he has a very strong game drive (rabbits, deers, elks - all suites for Uno). If the terrain has a lot of game smells, the smells most likely won and the guy has to wait as long as all the tracks have been analysed.

Ready to work.
